'Stan Tour - Day
8 - FOB Methar Lam and FOB Fenty. |
|
|
|
Full day ahead - shows at FOB Methar Lam (methlab) and FOB Fenty at
Jalalabad.
Methar Lam is a small FOB out in the middle of nowhere. It was 115
degrees and we performed on an outside concrete pad, in the sun.
Directly behind us was a wall with barbed wire rolls on top, separating
the camp from an Afghani village which the FOB was named after.
After the show, the commander of the FOB presented Matt with a flag that
had been flown over the camp. Then they showed us a ram which they had
been fattening up, with plans to barbeque it on Monday evening.
We were scheduled to have lunch there at FOB Methar Lam, but the
Chinooks picking us up were early, so we had to run to catch them, to
get to FOB Fenty at Jalalabad. |

Taking the gear off of the truck on the flightline at Bagram, preparing
to board a Chinook. |
| |
|

Hopefully, the first to get off the Chinook will be the last ones
loaded. It didn't always work out that way. |
| |

Our appreciative audience at FOB Methar Lam. Unfortunately, half
the camp was away on missions, but the remaining personnel were
excellent hosts! |
| |

This was a HOT show. Unbelievably hot. |
| |

Here's one of the best pictures of the whole trip. It's got
everything - mountains, village, walls with barbed wire, bomb bunkers,
pallets of bottled water, and US! |
| |
|

We were hoping that we wouldn't have to use the bunkers. Luckily,
we didn't! |
| |

Matt accepts a flag which had previously been flown over the camp.
Cool gift! I believe we were the first visitors ever to this
particular FOB, and they were quite happy to have us! |
| |

Some of the locals do laundry for the FOB. |
| |

Believe it or not, this is a Pizza Hut, at FOB Fenty. It was
pretty late at night when we had a chance to eat. Since the D-Fac
was closed, Pizza Hut was our only option. It tasted okay, but I
think it was goat cheese on top. |

One of our bunk/partitions at FOB Fenty. The a/c couldn't keep up,
and we were sweating, but we slept good. |
